Dr. Gerety is educated and trained in all areas of children’s oral health. Dr. Gerety provides many services in office to help children with their oral needs. There are several options to obtain a comfortable visit for your child. Dr. Gerety is trained to administer conscious sedation and/or use nitrous oxide (or commonly called laughing gas) to complete dental procedures in our office. However, not all children and their dental needs can be met in an office setting. Therefore, Dr. Gerety is on staff at Saint Francis Hospital. This hospital affiliation provides children with more serious dental problems or special health needs a viable option for their dental needs.
We always like to do an initial exam (or what we like to call a “meet-and-greet”) appointment first to see how to best treat your child. Depending on your child’s age, we may also take some initial x-rays of their teeth at the same time. If your child does not have any decay problems noted at that first visit and they are cooperative, we can also do a nice cleaning and fluoride treatment. However, if your child does have a cavity we may wait until we fill the cavity to do the cleaning. We will help you get a treatment plan that is best suited for your child’s needs.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends early dental exams and preventive health education. Keep in mind dental visits do not have to be scary to your children. We are highly trained in methods to make babies and children comfortable when they visit our office.
Our team at Dr. Gerety’s Tulsa dental office would like to take this opportunity to emphasize the importance of preventive dentistry. Preventive dentistry for children includes: proper brushing habits, regular flossing, dental development, use of fluorides, good oral habits, orthodontics (if needed), parent involvement, proper diet, sealants, and sports safety.
Children with healthy mouths learn to speak more quickly and clearly. They typically have better general health, because disease in the mouth can lead to problems in the rest of the body. A healthy mouth is more attractive which promotes confidence in your child’s appearance. Preventive dentistry will result in less expensive treatment and starts with the first tooth.
We encourage you to bring your child into our office for a dental health evaluation. Early and continuing care is essential to achieve a lifetime of good dental health for your child. Today’s advanced technology combined with our dental skills and our ability to make your child comfortable can change the way your children smile today tomorrow and forever. Let’s work together to attend to your children’s dental needs!
